About this service

At Modish Construction Ltd, block paving is one of our most in-demand services, and it is easy to see why. A properly installed block paved driveway or patio not only transforms the kerb appeal of your property — it adds lasting value and stands up to decades of heavy use when built on the correct foundations.

We use only high-density MOT Type 1 sub-base, compacted in layers, and set all edging in a full concrete haunch to prevent the blocks from spreading or shifting over time. Every block is hand-cut precisely around manholes, drainage points and curved edges for a clean, seamless finish.

From excavation through to kiln-dried sanding and final vibration, all work is carried out by our own experienced team. We never subcontract and we never cut corners on the groundwork that makes the difference between a driveway that lasts a lifetime and one that fails within a few years.

What’s included

  • High-density MOT Type 1 sub-base compacted in layers
  • Full concrete haunching to all perimeter edges
  • Herringbone pattern for maximum interlock and strength
  • Precision cutting around all drainage, manholes and edges
  • Kiln-dried jointing sand and wacker-plate compaction
  • Backed by our guarantee and fully insured

Our process

  1. Excavation & Sub-Base

We excavate the area to a minimum of 200-250mm and install a high-density MOT Type 1 sub-base, compacted in layers to ensure a rock-solid foundation.

  2. Edging Restraints

All perimeter edges are set in a substantial concrete haunching. This is vital to prevent the blocks from "spreading" and shifting over years of use.

  3. Sharp Sand Bedding

We apply a layer of washed sharp sand, screeded to a perfect level and fall to ensure efficient water drainage away from your property.

  4. Block Laying & Cutting

Blocks are laid in your chosen pattern (e.g., Herringbone for maximum strength) with precision cuts around all manholes, corners, and edges for a seamless finish.

  5. Kiln-Dried Sanding & Vibration

The surface is swept with kiln-dried jointing sand and compacted with a heavy-duty wacker plate to lock the blocks together and create a durable, professional surface.
