At Modish Construction Ltd, Indian stone paving is one of our most popular services for customers who want a natural, timeless finish with real character. Every slab is unique — the natural colour variation, texture and veining of Indian sandstone and slate creates patios and paths that simply cannot be replicated with manufactured materials.
Natural stone requires specialist installation techniques. Because it is porous, standard mortar can cause staining and discolouration if applied without the correct bonding agent. We prime the underside of every slab before bedding, and hand-pick each stone for colour variation to create a beautifully balanced layout.
We calibrate each slab individually to account for the natural variation in stone thickness, ensuring perfectly level joints and a smooth, safe walking surface throughout. From excavation to weather-shield resin jointing, every step is carried out by our own experienced team.

Our process
Sub-Base Compaction
We excavate to a minimum of 150mm and install a high-density MOT Type 1 sub-base, compacted to provide a solid, non-sink foundation for the natural stone.
Priming & Bonding
To prevent the stone from absorbing moisture from the mortar (which causes staining), we apply a specialised bonding agent to the underside of every slab.
Wet Mortar Bedding
Each stone is hand-picked for colour variation and laid on a full 4:1 wet mortar bed. This ensures the natural ripples of the stone are perfectly levelled for a smooth walking surface.
Calibration & Alignment
Because natural stone varies in thickness, we meticulously calibrate each slab into the bed, ensuring tight joints and a consistent finish across the entire patio.
Weather-Shield Jointing
We finish with a premium brush-in resin grout that is breathable yet water-resistant, protecting the stone joints from frost damage and weed growth.
