Tarmac & Asphalt
Two-course tarmac driveways and access roads, kerbed and edge-sealed to stop the cracking that finishes cheap jobs.
About this service
At Modish Construction Ltd, tarmac and asphalt surfacing is one of the most cost-effective and durable choices for driveways, car parks and access roads. A properly installed tarmac surface laid on the correct sub-base will handle the weight of multiple vehicles daily for decades with minimal maintenance.
We lay tarmac in two distinct courses — a structural binder course followed by a fine-textured wearing course — to ensure both long-term strength and a smooth, deep-black finish. All perimeter edges are set with decorative block paving or concrete kerbstones in a full concrete haunch to prevent edge cracking and spread.
Every job is carried out entirely by our own team. We never subcontract tarmac work and we stand behind every installation with our guarantee. From excavation and kerbing right through to final edge sealing, the quality is consistent throughout.

Our process
Foundation
We excavate to the required depth and install a heavy-duty MOT Type 1 sub-base, compacted thoroughly to ensure the driveway can handle the weight of multiple vehicles.
Edging & Kerbing
Professional decorative edging or concrete kerbstones are set in a concrete haunch. This provides a solid frame to contain the tarmac and prevents edge cracking.
Base Course
A thick "binder course" of large-aggregate tarmac is laid and compacted to provide structural strength and a level surface.
Wearing Course
We apply a final "wearing course" of fine-textured tarmac (typically 6mm). This is laid hot and rolled to a smooth, seamless, deep-black finish.
Edge Sealing
Transitions between the new tarmac and the road are perfectly levelled, and edges are sealed to prevent water ingress and ensure long-term durability.
