Patios
Patios in porcelain, Indian stone or flagging — set out around how you use the space, and laid to fall away from the house.
About this service
A patio is the part of the garden you actually sit in, so it is worth setting out around how you use it rather than simply filling the space next to the house. Where the evening sun lands, how far a table and chairs need to pull out, and whether there is room to walk past someone sitting down — those decide the size and position long before the material does.
The build underneath is the same discipline as any of our paving work: a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, a full wet mortar bed rather than dot-and-dab, and a deliberate fall away from the house so water runs off rather than sitting against the brickwork. Where the patio meets the building we keep the finished surface clear of the damp-proof course.
We lay patios in porcelain, Indian sandstone and concrete flagging, and each is bedded the way that material needs — porcelain primed with SBR slurry, natural stone primed against mortar staining. The right method depends on what you choose, and we will talk you through the difference before you decide.

Our process
Setting Out
We mark out the patio on the ground so you can see the real size before we dig, and check it against furniture, doors and the path of the evening sun.
Excavation & Sub-Base
We excavate to depth, remove all organic material, and install a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base to prevent later settlement.
Bedding
Slabs are laid on a full wet mortar bed with the correct primer for the material, so every slab is fully supported and nothing rocks.
Levels & Falls
The surface is set to a slight fall away from the building, and kept below the damp-proof course where the patio meets the house.
Jointing & Clean Down
Joints are filled to suit the material — a brush-in resin grout on natural stone and concrete flags, a flexible exterior grout on porcelain — and the whole area is washed down before we leave.
